Whats the steps in make a wooden snare drum shell?

I know there is a couple of ways to make a drum shell, i preferably like maple wood..anyways, i know in my case i think i would have to make the shell with individual blocks of maple wood and "mend" them togethor..I guess you would need like 19 or 20 for a snare, and that number is just from what i have been reaserching..I know the other way, which is compressing 6 to 10 plys togethor to form the shell is probably harder so what does a guy need to know in making a shell, or if i bought a shell, would all i need is just snare, snare stainer, lugs, hoops etc...is it as easy as just drilling some holes and putting it togethor? suggestions?
