If you do not have a written agreement that obligates you to pay, then I see no reason why you should pay if you did not attend. Plus you have a legit argument and reason for not attending. Their lack of sleep from drinking the night before would have had irresponsible consequences in the safety of your life. You did the right thing in not going.
